IGP Côtes de Thongue

The wine-growing region of the Côtes de Thongue encompasses 23 villages situated in the Faugères-Pézenas-Béziers triangle, occupying the Thongue river basin in the Hérault deparment of the Languedoc. Over time, the course of the river made the open landscape characteristic of the Côtes de Thongue. The chain of small hills marks the territory, creating a sense of style that belongs to it alone. The vineyards are mostly placed between 50 and 100 meters above sea level and fully benefit from the Mediterranean climate. Thanks to recent technological evolutions, the red wines are, according to their wine-making and aging conditions, either fruity and supple or full-bodied and spicy. In general, wine-growers look for balanced fruit and elegance in white wines and rosés.  Five wine cellar co-ops and 70 independent cellars produce about 55,000 hl of wine. The majority is bottled in the area of production and almost 70% of the wine is exported, principally to Europe but also to the United States and Japan. As of now, their well-known reputation largely goes beyond their regional setting thanks to the collective dedication of the wine-growers and to their shared passion to make their name known well beyond its borders.

Grape varieties: Cabernet-Sauvignon, Carignan, Chardonnay, Cinsault, Grenache, Merlot, Mourvèdre, Pinot, Sauvignon, Syrah.

Average yield: 65-70 hl/ha
